DR. TERRY GILLILAND is the associate medical director for Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group, P.C. He is responsible for hospital operations, ambulatory surgery, pharmacy, lab, urgent care and utilization management.
His academic journey began with graduation from Stanford University with a BS in Biology. He received his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and completed his general surgery internship and residency at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. Terry was a Sloan Fellow and received a master's degree from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business in 2008.
Prior to joining the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group, Dr. Gilliland served as the operational chief of Surgical Specialties for the Colorado Permanente Medical Group, where he was responsible for surgical services in two medical office buildings and five surgical venues with more than 160 surgeons and anesthesiologists performing more than 29,000 surgical cases per year. In Colorado, he fully implemented American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program for Kaiser Permanente Colorado in conjunction with Exempla St. Joseph Hospital and internalized care and optimized efficiency for all surgical venues. Dr. Gilliland served on the medical group board of directors, pension committee, and executive committee. He also served as a general surgery expert case reviewer for the Colorado Board of Medical Examiners.
Dr. Gilliland is happily married to his wife, Jill, and has three grown sons, Ben, Luke, and Dan.
